Waiuta is a ghost town. It was abandoned when one of it’s gold mines collapsed. Waiuta had reached to a limit 600 people and dropped in to 30 in a month after the it collapsed. Many fled but some people stayed. Now Waiuta has old fallen gold mines and contaminated water. 

History:

Waiuta was founded on November 9 in 1905 on King Edwards VII’s birthday. Waiuta's Blackwater Shaft mine collapsed on July 9 in 1951. The mine had fallen and started to flood inside. Many people did not have jobs anymore so they were forced to leave the town.

Facts:

Now most of the abandoned houses are just chimney’s, parts of houses with no roof and others are just bricks. The river and stream water had become contaminated with deadly chemicals. Three years ago the Department of Conservation spent $3.6 million dollars to decontaminate areas with contaminated water.

People still go up to Waiuta for the walks, for the history and the experience at a New Zealand West Coast ghost town.

weekly reflection / Week 1

This week on Monday it was a normal day at school doing work meaning 20 minutes of khan and other work. Tuesday was the same as the other day but people were sorting out pet day posters and what pet they are going to be bringing. On Wednesday it was the same as Tuesday. On Thursday it was pet day. I thought on pet day was going to be fun and it was we did a lot of stuff. Now today is Friday and I am thinking of what I am doing in the weekend.

kiwi trip

When we showed up to the kiwi creche. We all got out of our cars and waited at a tall gate covered in mesh on the top was a long, curved piece of metal . Our class waited patiently by the opening talking to people around us. As Joe showed up on the other side of the gate, She came and told us about the place and what to do when in there. As we went in some of the class walked along calmly but the rest ran in front excitedly. When we got to a shed we talked about the kiwis and lots of interesting facts about them.

We learned that kiwis can live for seventeen years.When joe had finished talking we went to see the kiwi called juno. Jo rummaged through the gorce looking for juno as we waited patiently. When Jo emerged from the prickles she was holding a green bag with juno in it, squirming and cheeping. Jo sat down in front of us and introduced us to the squirmy kiwi. We split up into two groups as not to scare him. She weighed him and took his health checks before letting the other group come over and see him.

When we had finished our kiwi trip we went back to get into our cars and the parents drove us back to school.

1. Why do you think compassion is important? What good does it bring to the world?
It is apart of our emotion we can’t get rid of it and that is why it is good.

2. What good does compassion bring to the world? Think both directly and indirectly.
I think that it is good sometimes because it gives us confidence. Sometimes it leaves us broken heart  .

3. Does showing compassion to others change the way people treat us.
Not always sometimes it is bad and others people change the way they act people.

4. How are five ways you can show compassion in your everyday life?
Show kindness. Respect privacy. Be ionised. Show respect. Be responsible. Be helpful.

6. Research the evolution of compassion and if it is shown more or less today than it used to be. The lowest composition shown was in 1996 when 743 were only showing compassion. The highest was in 2015 only 1,099 people showed compassion.

Weekly reflection Thursday

Most of the week I have been focused with no music and I have been doing a lot of work. I have been doing what I am told and I have nearly cough with all my work. With my personal inquire I have been doing well I think I could do more work on it though. I have been having trouble with most of my maths really some of it is hard. I think I may have done a little more work. I could have done better.
